6th February 2009 (Mumbai, India): Associate Professor Dr. Balakrishnan Parasuraman (Industrial Relations Program, SSS) has certainly made UMS proud with his latest international breakthrough. In his very own words, AP Dr. Balakrishnan puts his achievement into a perspective. Here it goes:
The Global Advisory Council of Human Resource Development based in USA and India conferred the “HUMAN RESOURCE (HR) LEADERSHIP AWARD” to Associate Professor Dr. Balakrishnan Parasuraman, School of Social Sciences, University Malaysia Sabah at the World Human Resource Development (HRD) Congress, Mumbai, India — on the 6th February 2009. This is an appreciation for his outstanding work and contribution in the field of Industrial Relations, especially HR. We truly look forward for more academic staff from UMS to receive such honour, in order to bring up our reputation at the global arena.
The UMS Vice Chancellor, YBhg Kol. Professor Dr Kamaruzaman Ampon clearly stated in his message (UMS website): “Everyone has his/her own styles and ways in reacting to situations. Culture has influenced us to differ in our actions. Every act begins with different ways of thinking. However, if we start from the same mindset, then we will be able to unite in our actions. In other words, if we share similar policy and belief, then we will be able to achieve great and meaningful success. A shift of mind should take place in order to excel. Our minds should unite in thinking and acting, which eventually reflects the actual ability of our organization”. These words of encouragement serve as the challenge for us to excel.
In the past, the similar award was given to YBhg Dato’ Seri Prof Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah, President Elect – IFTDO Board and the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) — for his contribution in the field of global training and development. Other recipient also includes YBhg Datuk Rafiah Salim, the Executive Director of the International Centre for Leadership in Finance (Malaysia) and the former Vice Chancellor of University Malaya. She was awarded for her contribution to the field of HRD and leadership.
The World HRD Congress is a non profit-oriented event. The World HRD Congress is governed by the Global Advisory Council, which outlines and establishes the strategic intent of the congress and its logical success. Mr. Gardner’s leadership and contribution to the field of HR is well known. The position that he occupies in the fraternity is strategic and iconic. As a thinker and doer, he is a role model and a believer in change.
