Recently, a group of 25 secondary school students from Kudat stayed overnight after attending a course at the Outward Bound School in Kinarut. The girls managed to fit in sleeping on mattresses on the floor, while the boys camped in tents in the yard. Click here to read more.

In another event, a group of visitors was very impressed with the UMS campus, and as members of the indigenous Dusun community of Ranau felt proud that UMS has a Kadazandusun Chair. They said that the visit had inspired them to encourage their children and grandchildren to work hard at school so that they could one day study at UMS. Click here to read more.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Pugh-Kitingan, holder of the UMS Kadazandusun Chair, was recently appointed Adjunct Research Fellow in Anthropology, from the School of Political and Social Inquiry, Monash University, Australia. This is an honorary annual appointment.

1 – 8 July 2009 (South Africa): Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Pugh-Kitingan, who holds the UMS Kadazandusun Chair, recently presented some of her ethnomusicological research on the ritual world of the Lotud Dusun of Tuaran, Sabah, at the ICTM 40th World Conference in South Africa.

Prof. Madya Dr. Jaqueline Pugh-Kitingan, penyandang Kursi Kadazandusun, membentangkan kertaskerja berjudul: “The symbolic articulation of interactions between the seen and the unseen through gong ensemble music and dance in the Mamahui Pogun of the Lotud Dusun of Tuaran, Sabah, Malaysia”. Pembentangan ini turut disertai dengan tayangan video ritual adat yang diwacanakan.
